Berna Lindfield at The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) award ceremony 2013

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) award ceremony 2013 was held at the Hotel Russell, London on Friday 22nd November. I was delighted to accompany a very good friend and colleague of mine, Berna Lindfield, Chartered Physiotherapist who was presented with a Distinguished Service Award for her contribution to education within the area of veterinary physiotherapy.

These are the official details which have been taken from the official Chartered Society of Physiotherapy 7th Annual 2013 brochure.

Pamela and Berna

In 1996, as Education Officer for the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy (ACPAT), Berna established education programmes in animal physiotherapy.  In 1998 she assisted in the development of ACPAT’s own experiential training and recognition programme with the establishment of a Continual Assessment Record Book.

Berna also contributed to the formation of the Royal Veterinary College course through her pioneering development of an MSc in Veterinary Physiotherapy on which she also taught. This course became the gold standard for chartered physiotherapists wishing to train in this specialist field. Research projects in veterinary physiotherapy were conducted as part of the Masters programme, the first research of this kind in the world.

Through her expertise as an educator and clinical educator and in her education, animal anatomy and practical skills, Berna laid the foundations which have directly and significantly advanced the profession of veterinary physiotherapy.
